Bella thwarts would-be thieving rotters

Posted November 28th, 2006 by ionavespa

This is what i found when i came to ride my scoot home from work tonight - key barrel mangled and glovebox damaged but not opened. The steering lock held fast and despite all the damage the thieves couldn't bust the lock and i could still put my key in and turn ignition on and ride home. Ruined the looks somewhat tho' :(
Oh yeah and they busted off the plastic glove box on top of the metal as well and just left a tiny fragment and the screws. Thanks guys.

Not what I would call them, your too kind
I hope they get the trotts all summer.
Feral John.....
Sorry to hear about this Iona,
we also often park our scoots in quiet corners not to be noticed, and this could help vandals/thieves.
Maybe everyone should evaluate their workplace security.
Have padlocked chain through a wheel,so visually they can see the machine cant be ridden.
Other suggestions?
Old Mod
you might like to try that old mod!
bright yellow disk lock might be more suitable and easy to carry

Or a tazzer that zaps any one who trys to take your scooter
Iona. Still - at least it was the Bella, and not the ss! ;-D
I surely am glad that I didn't ride my ss to work yesterday....not that I am any less happy about the Bella getting vandalised.
Yep, to the above re securing your scoot - however i work in Sth Akld and the security guys here reckon it is the time of year when some folks here go crazy vandalising just for the sake of it. I'm still gonna ride my scoots to work...I'll just try and get a good vigilante spy set up happening and will change my parking spot slightly.
Hope everyone else with scoots keeps em safe from troublesome 'rottweilers'.
we are pretty lax with our scoots in this country ......perhaps it is time for locks .....pisses you off or what...I didn;t know you had a Bella Ionavespa now Iownabella or was that bellaIona.....
My bi-wheeled wonder either has me in the seat, or is chained to something unmoveable. Next step - alarm tied into a stebel 130dB horn (folks at kiwibiker.co.nz are organizing a bulk order of them from the UK).
so are you riding the Bella or the SS down the motorway to work, or is that reserved for the GT days?
Motorway sees the GT and the Bella doing their thing and the urban street scene sees the ss and the jog having a great time - although I have done the southern and the northwestern on the ss (original motor). Just depends what sort of ride I feel i wanna do - or how late I'm running for work!
thieving rotters?
I would have called them something that rhymes with Rucking Punts

...on the bella variations! Yep, I got a Bella too (was gonna say "for a steal") in 'real good nick' - oh boy, the puns just keep rolling in...about 2 months ago. Really pleased with it, mint condition til this happened.
But you are right, Caza, it is a wake-up call. I've parked my scoot at the same place at work for over 2 years - so I'm actually thinking of a cover now for the scoot and moving it to a place where i can see it all day from my office window (plus chained to pole)...even tho, it won't be a legal parking place.
I like the sound of that alarm SG - cos chaining something to a pole won't stop the screwdrivers from coming out and mangling the ignition barrel.
locking either the steering or a wheel doesn't stop the guys with the rented trailer behind the stolen car, as happened more than once around uni this year. Better to get one of them good-quality cable locks and lock it to a tree, a pipe, something else immobile, or just to another scooter.
