There are quite a few around. It's the model available for rental at A Certain Great North Road scooter shop, but they don't tend to stray far from their home as they are small and a bit puny, but with a certain Gallic charm.
Okay, I can just see the design team for this thing in action:
"Calling the Design Team Meeting to action!
1: It has to be small and nimble.
2: It must have ample storage, even if you find the need to put on the biggest top box IN THE WHOLE WORLD.
3: Front racks or a basket are the new black, they actually make scooters look good, so better put one on. Any chance of putting two on? No? Bugger.
4: Step through must be there, catering for people who are 3 feet tall.
5: Windscreens are cool, especially if they are the size of a small sail.
6: Don't worry about looks, it will look great in the end."
And the final point is whether they failed. While I acknowledge that looks are entirely subjective, let's say that the Vespa will always be the Heidi Klum of scooters, while the Mollet is the Susan Boyle of scooters....

Maybe we could compare scooters to architectural heritage. Vespa might be like The Colloseum. Functional, remarkably engineered and generally quite beautiful.
Now a Mollet maybe a bit more like Aucklands own piece of heritage at the end of Queens Wharf. Functional and um.... well..... um....
We could compare scooters to cars. Vespa is like it's big brother, the Alfa Romeo. The old ones are all beautiful (apart from the Sud or the 33 IMO) but were not always that reliable. They have character, style and the ability (read need) to fettle with them endlessly. The modern ones still retain some charm and good looks (and turn heads) but have sorted out the reliability issues (or so they tell me). The GS160 would be compared to the most beautiful Alfa of all time, the GT Junior 2000 (again IMO).
Now the Mollet is a little like the Yugo, or the Lada. Born out of need and built to be functional. Aspirations towards bigger things (like a Skoda) but concentrating on getting the basics right and moving people with the minimum of fuss and cost.
Now Lambretta is a different thing alltogether. I reckon that taking the car analogy further, the Lambretta is a Maserati....DAMN good looking, DAMN fast and not mainstream in the least.
What other great comparisons can we draw?

Yugos and Ladas were unreliable piles of crap, with the basics wrong (I speak from direct experience), the Mollet has a reputation for indestructible reliability
There's a story in this ... so outrageously swamped by screen and wire basket and metal trunk - fantastic!

You need to get a windscreen for yours Ritchie and a few extra panels and your Mollet can look this... ah... good?... too!
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning
that is my one
Mine is identical, even the capacious black box, but my basket is white. Unitec, you say. Hmmmm...
Another Mollet lurking in the Auck!!
Go and check the basket for Indian cooking or Pies.
There is some strange prediliction for VAST boxes also!

In that case, the Mollet is like the Volvo. Indestructible, but only appealing to those that own them?
it isn"t a top box, its a long range fuel tank....
Is the basket on the front for the concrete blocks that you need to prevent wheelstands when you have the groceries in the container on the back?
