Paint Stripping and Panel Work
I have a beat up old '69 150 super that I want to bring back to life; I know it is not the most desirable of old bikes but it seems like the perfect first project for me. This is the first of what I am sure will be many questions...
The paint is pretty bad, a few patches of surface rust and the lovely brush marks from where the previous owner used a paint brush.... So i am thinking that getting it all striped is the best option (although i welcome advice here too). I am in Auckland but am open to places in Hamilton as I am down there often enough.
Does anyone have experience with stripping a bike? I got a ball park figure for getting it soda blasting at $200 - $300. Is this an ok price? Seems pretty good to me.
It also needs a bit of panel work, where the stand bolts have ripped through the floor, and I was looking for some advice of scooter friendly panel shops or people that anyone has dealt with?
I have looked on the international scooterist bbs for advice but it is pretty hard to find information relating to NZ.
The picture attached is not my bike but is pretty respresentative of its condition.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Seems like a good price, as
Seems like a good price, as previously had a place that used plastic media to blast car panels etc for around the same figure. We have done a acid dipped smallframe but have the issues of repainting of rust proofing the internal channels of the frame which is a real hassle. Soda sounds like the way to go, nice and gentle on the old metal.
Good luck and keep us all informed

Looking at repainting my scoot as well.
Where did you get the soda blasting quote from and have you progressed anything ?
Would like to hear any suggestions on how/where best to get panels stripped and repainted.
Cheers

NZ Soda Blasting
Quote (was a ballpark figure) was from from a guy called Warren Morris at NZ Soda Blasting,

I have read many, many posts on the scooterist bbs on stripping and came to the conclusion that media blasting was the best option for me. Dip stripping works well for lammies but because of the way the vespa frame is put together the dipping can cause a few issues.
I have not made to much progress on this front. Still busy taking the bike apart!
Right now i am stuck on getting the fender off the fork. My bearing race is stuck tight and causing me trouble. I have read I need to apply some heat so will give that a go.
I will keep you posted when I manage to get the bike to the required state of disassembly.

I got Lambretta in worse
I got Lambretta in worse condition (frame and about 30 pieces) dipped at Kwikstrip, Avondale few years ago for about $150. Was the only affordable part of the entire restoration process. The panelwork, paint, new parts and engine work are what cost.
Peter Jordan on Great North Road does lots of scooters panelwork.
Panel & Painting
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm looking into the motor first and then will dive into the panel and painting funds permittting.
