Has enyone ridden this road? it looks interesting on my map. After riding the Taihape-Napier rd, and totaly enjoying it, I am wondering what other forgotten gems are out there.

it is a good road we have friends that live along there.

only issue with Tauranga is getting there, you always have to get on a busy highway either over the Kaimais or in from Waihi both busy unpleasant sections of roads on a scooter. Speaking of gems the Kawhia rd is a real twisty one that winds you up high with great views of the harbour, In Kawhia you can buy fresh fish at the docks, eat at the restaurant or have ice cream or stay the night. From there a good loop is over to Marakopa where you would be lucky to see another vehicle (camp and cabins) then Waitomo (camp and cabins food etc) which is also a real twisty hilly road then back roads to Teawamutu. One of my local favorites, all sealed.

It's awesome on the scoot, twisties and turns through valleys and hills. A good ride

Great ride to blow out cobwebs from Rotorua to Tauranga returning round the back way. Makes up for all the traffic in Tauranga...

It would make a good over nighter. AKL - Tuhuna - Matamata - ROT [overnight in Vegas]. ROT - (via TGA Direct Rd) - TGA - Waihi - AKL via Kaiaua... Just an idea to put out there...

looks good

depending when I can get cheap accommodation in vegas for a group at union holiday homes. Or there's a good place with cabins at ngongotaha away from the bright lights
