learners licence - definately restricting!!
this learners licence thingy is no fun! looking forward to moving up in the worold of licencing!! Scooters not getting to much action due to 1) not being allowed to go over 70kph - pretty much rules out motorways (although I do go from onewa road to ponsonby a bit), and 2) not being able to drive after 10pm!!. grrrr! I have just broken to 200km barrier though, sad since I've had the scooter since December 2009! :)

For the six months that I
For the six months that I was commuting with a learners licence, I was using the motorway between Silverdale and Tristram Ave daily and travelling between 90 and 110 kmph. Plenty of cops around but they weren't interested. Yeah, the restrictions can be a pain. How long you got to go?
thanks for that. still
thanks for that. still got 3 months to go before I can sit my restricted. I'm headed out to orewa for an event this sunday on the scooter and plan to do most of it on the motorway.

It's a risk thing....
Simple solution would be to take the L plate off the back of the scooter and do whatever you want to. But when you do that you run two distinct risks.
The first risk is that you get pulled over by the fuzz for some reason, they check your license and throw you in the slammer with a big girl called "Buck". Okay, maybe not that likely but it will probably be a hefty fine.
In all the years of riding, and clocking up nigh on 30,000km, I have never, ever been pulled over......
Bigger risk is the fact that you may be an inexperienced rider (or maybe not?) and the whole reason for restricting your activities is to stop you from coming a cropper and getting seriously hurt. At high speed, the likelihood of damage goes up a tad.
While I would never admit to that sort of thing, I hardly ever had the L plate on back when I was on a learners and rode with freedom. Would I do that now? Probably. Hell, I ride on motorways every day of the week and that can be pretty, em, "exciting".....
Your call......
HMM Buck you say?? lol. I
HMM Buck you say?? lol. I had thought about removing the L plates but as I rely on my licence so heavily for work opted against it. The speed thing is certainly something that I had thought of, particularily after the amount of motorcycle accidents I have attended over the years (all of which my paramedic collegues reminded me of when i brought the scooter!!), it is funny though I can;t think of one single accident involving serious injury that I have been to that was the motorcyclists fault!! this is confirmed by the amount of cars (esepcially on the bridge) that attempt to kill me with stupid lane changes etc. I shouldn;t be surprised really, after driving ambulance under lights and siren for over 8 years I have seen most types of stupid driving!

Pillion passangers
I have a full licence while my wife has only a car one. She rides all the time without L plates (but never on the motorway) and hasn't been pulled over yet......
I got pulled over the other day while she was pillion on my PX. Cop was grumpy and rude and thought the bike was not designed for two. After 10 minutes on the radio to base, gave back my licence and let us continue on our way with a final "well I still don't think its right"
Well he would be grumpy
Well he would be grumpy wouldn't he. Thats about $400 hundred dollars worth of fines that won't be going into the Police Christmas Party funds.
That really is no way to gain the publics respect is it?
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning
I have a fair few cop mates
I have a fair few cop mates so can;t really make comment .... :)

My the cop had his scooter
May be the cop had his scooter taken off him
and was pissed at anyone who is aloud to ride one
the other risk
the other risk would be no insurance cover should anything happen

Kno L playt coz eye kan't spel it?
You will all be pleased to know that as of 1 December 09 the fine has dropped to $100.
Demerits have increased to 35.
Do that three times the soles of your shoes will start to show increased wear... especially if you miss the bus.
Repeat the above with monotonous repetition, then you can sit at home and wait for the courier to deliver the little square cube that was once your pride and joy.
All licence breeches are the same I think. BUT...
If you do a heap of licence breeches at the same time you get an accumulated fine but just the one set of demerits, kind of like a 4 new ones for the price of 1 old one plus small sprinkle of the other.......but here it the tricky bit.........if you are dealt a queen of spades the court will give you a chance to throw dice and get a six...but if you get 3 or less you land on a snake, slide down and loose more points... but you can gain back twice those points if the tail of the snake lands you at the the far end of the board at which point you get kinged and you are given a 4wd and diplomatic immunity to mow down anything smaller than you on the road...going backwards or forwards.
Neat aye?
Why bother with a proper justice system when you can have more fun in a board game legal system.
