Disgusted GT owner!

How can my husband denigrate a gt when he has one in a garage not 10 feet away?!!!! Not to mention the fact that he is never gonna ride my BMW again - OR my GT!!!!!

denigration?

To imply that GTs are so reliable that the very existence of tool kits is not widely known seems to me to be more like homage than denigration...

Posted by Ritchie on Fri, 21/05/2010 - 07:04
It may sound like homage, Ritchie, but...

...I know my husband better than that :) - behind that statement is a feeling that gt owners just don''t even know what a tool kit is, let alone what a scooter is. They are auto riders who have no idea of how a real scooter works and the experience of riding a gt is so unscooter like that they can't even claim to be a scooterist!!!! My reason for existing is to enlighten him :0)

denigration

Ah, so it's the GT owners that he's denigrating, not the scooters. Understandable and forgivable, I'd say. At least my autos have the decency to be mildly unreliable, thus qualifying them as true motorscooters.

Kinda depends

A bike lock and a tyre kit seem to park on the scoot the most now.

I've probably gone the other way now I used to carry all sorts of rubbish that I never used, even 250ml of 2T oil.
Good pre-flight checks made it all ballast.

I never used it but I know my GT has a tool box..

Kevin G wondered why I had a tool kit on a modern when I handed him a set of vise grips to fix his espresso machine at a rally, Michael from Retro was rapped I had the right screws for the top of his leaking mukini carb, Matt B admired my pile of cack as he walked away with handful of what he needed to repair his rat, When Gazzers scoot died on a ride out I handed him a new plug for his racer, cables fly wheel pullers, clutch tools, cack, not only do GTs never break down but they have heeps of storage. I really should only carry spare oil and filter and a tool to change them but I have friends that don't get it, dislike being held up by breakdowns and get grumpy when I don't get my morning coffee.

Yep

Pretty sure you lent me something on last year's Coro Loop run when the exhaust fell of my PX!!

Yes, my trusty GT seems to never miss a beat, day in and day out, in the rain and the shine (this morning was a rather soggy commute).

I got a free toolkit from some lawyers once, it is one of those "multi-tool" doo-dackies that has all sorts of bits and pieces. That stays in the glove box and probably has nothing of any use in it!!!

What I need is a tyre repairer, as that is that is the most likely thing to go wrong!

that's right you had to make up a braket

I carry a tire repair kit with those little air cartridges, not sure how it works though never had to use it, I hope I never do, those litttle cartridges make me nervous just handling them, I also carry a little bicycle pump in the event that those are now duds several years later. How is that boop, hoop tire going for you I heard some good things about them.

The Bopper

is good. I have had problems with it (but have only done about 2000ks) and it is smooth, grips okay and seems good...cheap too!

GTSs Dont break down?

The main water hose somehow popped off while I was on the motorway the other day. Of course I was oblivious to it happening, and wondered why everyone was pointing at me. Thought I'd better get off and have a look so exited at Cook St. and pulled over. As soon as I stopped I was enveloped in thick foul smelling "smoke" which I have to admit rather helped speed up the dismounting process. With the pungent taste of coolent in my mouth I quickly realised it was actually steam so hastily (but carefully) lifted the seat and accessed the motor. Found a cafe, and enjoyed a coffee while organising my wife and her trusty Toyota to deliver a bottle of coolant. I put the hose back in place and..........(herein lies the reason for this post)...used the trusty screwdriver from the trusty toolkit to get to the coolant reservoir. No idea why the hose came off in the first place, (maybe softened due to an exhaust leak?). Vespa use a stooopid hose clip that can't be re-tightened, so it was straight to Scooter e Motion for exhaust and cooling system repairs.

no one menitonded GTSs we were talking GT s

but now that you mentioned it I am surprised that they have a tool kit as most Vespa shops have their own tools, and that is the only place one can have them fixed, as they have to be hooked up to a special Vespa computer with access to the Italian Internet so LUIGI in Pontaderra can reset the computerized license plate bulb. The biggest issue with the GTS is that you end up having them sit all of August due to Italian holidays and you can't recalibrate the fuel gauge so the thing thinks it is out of petrol, actually you can only use them 9 months of the year if you factor in all the Catholic holidays. I hope they recalibrate the water pump for you so it doesn't start pumping water into the glove box, the screw driver will also need to be reset if you want to use it next time to signal the recovery vehicle, better get that done as you are likely to need that soon. Tool kit on a GTS now that is funny, who said piaggio don't have a sense of humour.

Pie Warmers

Are what we need.

An old hamburger is ok after 10Klicks if on the silencer, I am led to believe.

The under seat storage is not really hot enough for Pie Warming but will assist in keeping temp for a little while, whilst seeking the nearest tavern.

If you have an item in your tool kit, odds are you won't need it! Strange sort of (un) natural law of averages.

I dont like those non ratchet clips either, Hobie. Sort of disaster waiting to happen.

Snakebite you are just jealous that Luigi has so many holidays- purely sour grapes/ wishfull thinking I think. Me too!

eat the pie first old mod

then you don't have to worry about it getting cold and fusty.

your law of averages is correct - but the day I take the tyre kit out is the day i will get a flat - so no tempting murphy.

fishman has created an awesome tool kit from a pencil case which can be turned inside out with all the tools held in by elastic like a shadow board in a man-shed. a true work of art.

I feel like re-evaluating my tool kit now.

How does one ensure that the

How does one ensure that the pie does not fall off the silencer, and how can you maintain the integrety of the paper bag whilst completing the 10 clicks? Perhaps a small pie warmer could be incorperated in the exhaust system? I also worry about my food being permiated by noxious gasses!

Warming

Silver foil Hobie, with wire.

Fishman obviously uses that pencil case to overawe other Hardley people in the tavern. With his preparedness that is.

Do Gt-Gts's have cigerette lighters?

Cause I have a Pie warmer/ Fridge that plugs into one & has a shoulder strap to make it even more portable. Currently working out how to install on my PX.

I think snakebite does.

I think snakebite does. :-S

also something that I have been looking into. you can buy a kit that replaces one of the access panels above the glovebox from this crowd. just plug & play apparently...

also one available for the GTS & GTV...
