Starting a GT with a dead battery

I am guessing that GTs and GTSs do not have kickstarts, as they are 4-strokes and maybe the compression is a little high. It is all that I can think of. Any ideas?

The long and short of my prob is that my trusty GT did not start this morning. The starter "whirred" but only engaged the engine for a couple of turns, and after a few tries, it did not even "whirr". When I turn on the ignition now, the headlight dies when I hit the button, so imagine that the battery is gone. Any other thoughts?

So, if the battery has mysteriously died over the weekend, is there an easy (or difficult) way to start a CVT Auto, or do you have to use the battery or jumpstart?

Cheers, The WOP

Sorry can't help ya there.

I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning

Curse the complacent engineers who chose not to provide a kickstart, the arrogant bastards. I too wish there was a way to start an auto without battery power, but I don't know of one.

GTS scoots give their batteries a hard time.

I would imagine they can be jump started?

After 2 years get a new one.

I have been threatening myself with a battery tender not trickle charger I believe there is a difference. Also get a motorcycle rated one not a car charging rate. Optimate brand springs to mind.

Weak link alright, Eddie

Any consolation, Beemer bikes like tenders too, I wonder why?

Supercheap and M10 have a tiny little booster, only catch with both is the need for a cigarette lighter type plug.

I do not believe that a battery as small as that can hold enough joules to restore the charge on a flat car or even bike/scooter battery. Better to get an automatic charger suited for small batteries. Surplustronics sell a couple as good prices, as I realised after I bought one for around $80 at Repco

I have to check but there is a correct connection sequence for donor(charged) to uncharged battery to avoid electrics possible damage.

Luckily (I think)....

That the GT does not have too many clever electronics, unlike the GTS. I think that you can blow up the CDI and stuff on the GTS (like modern cars) if you don't connect them properly.

I charged the battery last night using a car charger and it is fine today, but think that it is kaput so will get a new one anyway. Given that I use the scoot daily, I kinda need one!

As for the sequence, it goes like this:
Dead car negative
Live car negative
Dead car positive
Live car positive

At least, that is how my dad taught me!

The GTS is way more fussy with the EFI an'all.

Snakebite will be gloating at that cause its why he likes his GT.

When a battery goes on a GTS it can be humming down the road and then just go to tickover while you glide in to the verge, NO warning prior.
This is to protect the electronics while it still has some power. The lights will even continue for a while which can fool you as to what has gone kaputt! But it wont fire up.

Dont go for the cheapest battery on a GTS either, get a "heavier" better cells one..

My experience anyway.

Eddie be ready to get a new battery.

I bet that has caught a few out, especially the lights working on.

I think Uber may have experience similar problems "Winter and old age" ; )
The mighty jog comes with a kick-start, why can't a GT or a GTs?
Is there a reason why not?

My old 3ltr diesel van didn't either..
The jog has a kicker but its useless at the moment I haven't rerun a choke cable yet so I have to reach under and half block the air cleaner hole on cold mornings. It takes a bit of spinning to fire up.

my newest addition to my GT's tool kit is some mini jumper leads.

I made them from some W16 welding cable from work, can make you some as well if you need... :)
