Oil slicks
A question for those burger burners...
I have been looking at a SYM GTS 250 service manual and noticed the scoot needs new blood every 1000kms and needs 1.2ltrs every time
To me that seems a short interval and a bit of a deterrent to own one, bold exploration of nz by this scoot would need new oil every second day!
The jog cv50 burns around 1ltr every 1000k so its cheaper (no disposal fees LoL)
I cant find a Bergman manual so was wondering what the oil change interval is, how much is used and does it have a filter element. I think the 2003-2006 400cc engines are the same, 07 is bigger?
I'm guessing the vespa gts 250 and the scoots that use that engine must be way higher than the syms 1000k.
Just thought it was a bit of a trap, I've never asked what the oil interval was for anything.

Vespa GT200
The GT200 gets a service every 4,000km new oil every time. Not every 1,000, that is for sure!
Thanks
Thanks for that info I'll store that away to stop me chasing any tardme deal of the century with the sym gts.

1000km!
Are you sure it's not a typo? That's ridiculous even if it doesn't have a proper filter, which I doubt. What does it say in the owner's manual? Scott? Frans?
Hmmm
the owners manual says first 300kms then every 3000kms with a filter clean every 6000kms. The filter is a screen behind the drain plug.
If it was me I would drop the oil at the first 1000kms as well.
Very different to the shop service manual and its not the first time there is a conflict between shop and owners manuals.

only a screen?
The cygnuses (cygna? cygnii? i dunno, i never did latin) have proper replaceable screw-on automotive-type filters, it's a pity my previous owners didn't replace them more often
buy a 2T hehehehe
buy a 2T hehehehe
have some
i already have some, thanks, but sometimes it's nice to have the peace of a 4-stroke, and also the 4-strokes do tend to start easier and not wear out nearly as quickly
A Two Tee
A 2t with a manual variater (rocker foot peddle) around 2-300cc.
Manufactures have lost the plot a little...

SYM GTS Oil use
Ive had the SYM GTS for 8000km now and I have changed the oil once. (It was changed just before I purchased it) The filter was cleaned at the same time. The oil level has never fluctuated, Ive never had to top it up. The oil was in pretty good nick when it came out, not too dark, and no 'bits'.
It has a little warning light on the dash that comes on to tell you its time, you change the oil, push the reset button and wait for it to come on again. It must be set at a certain KM interval, Im sure mine will flick on again very soon.
I had read the recomendation for every 1000km, but thought it must be rubbish, probably an over cautious manufacturer or a dodgy translation from Taiwanese. My Piaggio Fly needs a change every 6000km and I reakon every 4-6000km is about right for most modern 4Ts.
Its been 8000km of mechanically trouble free motoring, I almost feel guilty Ive not had to have it tinkered with......
The battery went flat because I hadnt ridden it for 2 months....but I jump started it from the fly...other than a crappy Conti Twist rear tyre.......its all good
"filter was cleaned"
So doesn't it have a "proper" replaceable cartridge filter? Only a cleanable mesh screen? It the Fly the same?
The SYM has an oil
The SYM has an oil 'strainer', a mesh cap type thing.
Ive not looked at the fly yet so I dont know. The picture in the service manual looks like the same sort of thing as the SYM. I dont know if its a 'proper' replaceable cartridge filter.
10,000km
Coming up for 10,000km on the GTS since the last oil change. Granted, that's probably a bit long, but it's looking good and I'm holding out until my 20,000km service which is pretty close now. 5 ~ 8000km is probably about right.
I know what you mean about the Conti Twist Scott...dangerous delamination after about 6000km! I had the importer give me a free replacement, but still had to pay to have it fitted. Keeping a very close eye on the new one.
GT/GTS
Has a small oil capacity, and yet revs pretty consistently at 6-7.5 thousand, be kind and change the oil more often rather than less.
5000 kms should be max I think, even if Piaggio say 10,000 .
Whats the cost of a litre of oil in the scale of things . Especially given the revs once off tickover are "up" there on its power band being an auto.
New lubricant
Scientists in the US have found a way for water to be used to lubricate engines. It is truly revolutionary. Only proviso is that the water must be from the Gulf of Mexico.
Good information
Thanks Team

Hi Stuart
Just checked my manual for my burger 400 and interval is every 6000km and filter every 24 months or 12000km. My last filter was about $12 so costs are quite reasonable. My last service was about $250 but that included a new air filter at some horrendous price of about $90. Usual service is about $120.
Hope that helps
thanks Pogo2
all is good in the world of scoots and their oil habits.
Makes the little jog seem a bit of an oil guzzler though. LoL
