Scooter Racing - Labour Weekend - Waitara

Posted July 24th, 2010 by matt
Some of the old Auckland racing fraternity are heading down to the NZCSC rally. With that in mind we thought it appropriate to offer some thrills and spills to the attendees. After some investigation of the rally site and district i have located what is one of the best Kart Clubs and tracks in NZ. Costs have been finalised and the Kart clubs fears have been dealt with.
SO, if you are keen to participate, it would be prudent to prepare yourself. Scoots cannot have centre stands or kickstarts. These can be removed on the day and there will be plenty of help and advice on site.
We are open to suggestions, and running more than one group might be appropriate, one for "new starts" who just want to ride as fast as their skills will carry them and a race class.
Local Media is being organised to cover this event, and i have secured un seen footage from the events around Scooterfest to air at the Rally. So there will be something of a premier, but no red carpet. (probably brown weird carpet from the 70s)
The rally site in land from Inglewood is something to behold, so prepare yourself, and if we want there is an on site adventure/challenge ropes assault course...so we maybe able to organise a Relay race like we had at Dargaville?!
The NZCSC rally will offer something to everyone. If racing is not your thing, there will be a ride around the neighbourhood offered at the same time...and the organisers are suggesting that ride might call past the race track for a drink and spectate.
The roads are brilliant, so get clearance from the people you need clearance from...and come on down/up? If the tracks dry - you are going to see some old grievances being fought about on the track, elbow to elbow and metal to metal - with some metal to tarmac thrown in!
(disclaimer - if you go out on the track on your own, and fall off un aided - its your shout)
:)

.
is this on sat or sunday?????
50 bucks, as much as you can handle. all proceeds to Taranaki Kart Sport....start time will depend on the level of drinking on Saturday night, catching up with people i only see once or twice a year can carry a heavy cost :)
bikes in bits for more speed!!
its not always about speed, sometimes its about getting around the corners as quickly as possible without breaking your leg
to win, first you must finish!
broken leg what i've had worse just a scratch
must say it didn't stop Rosi!!
what racing class do scooters fit into, F4 and F5 or buckets?
Or are they kept away from bikes in their own class?

he wont muster another win this season i reckon, and if he does it will be late season - JWC check the scootnz website for rules
first rule of scooter racing, there are no rules!
- scooter racing is a breed of its own, buckets are slow by comparison, well most of them at least

roger wrote these originally, he is a rules geek - cut and pasted
Whilst these rules do allow for machines with very different characteristics to be raced it is VERY important that you check before buying/building/turning up to a meeting on something as the boundaries are set partly to keep the class competitive. And because we only like scooters.

matt,
as i don't know the lay out of the track .. would it have enough strait length at start/finish to also organise a 1/4 or 1/8 mile race?
Could be another drawcard for fun if the kart guys would allow ...
just a thought ... see if anyone could be interested
"if it doesn't fit, use a bigger hammer!"
but we could do dodgy drag racing out at the campsite, its pretty quiet and out of the way - we could organise a people road block
amazing what you can achieve with a reflector vest, a clip board and an authorative manner :)
....well if dodgy is the word, there is always the option for a gumball style "leisureley trip" arround the mountain with start and finish at the camp....
of corse everyone has to obey the road code rules, stick to the speed limits, have a WOf, have rego ( insert Tui billboard here)
"if it doesn't fit, use a bigger hammer!"
