Lambretta Race Team

Lambretta Reparto Corse - the results are not there yet, but its pretty cool to see the name flying around again, and these can undoubtedly beat a Vespa, sadly there are no vespa race teams to settle the age old rivalry....or maybe the vespa/piaggio people are two scared to show up

If thats a standard spec sheet

If I was to get into racing I've got to stop eating pies...not to mention getting older LoL

I found this
http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2010/Lambretta+returns+to+the+World+Championship

so when will the scoots follow if production of scoots is due to restart soon?

125's

are the forming ground for tomorrows moto gp stars, these guys are essentially jockeys. They are short, with the build of a whippet and most the guys on the 125s are really young, early teens...once you are strong enough, you get on a 250, then when you are a man (at 60 odd kilos, haha not really possible) you get a motogp ride if you are cool enough

125 and 250 would be great classes, huge fields, moto gp is pretty exclusive, when you run in there though i guess the bikes are sporting price tags of a million plus....

on the Lambretta race team, there is a bit of controversy there. The company that owns the Lambretta name and the rights to build Lambrettas are not happy that some one has borrowed the name. The race team does not have the right apparently to use the name. But i think the company is getting great exposure for free in a motogp paddock and potentially on the telly....and it looks great as a bike

I heard, lawyers are talking about who is going to win, and what the bill will be

I've read several times that

I've read several times that the Lambretta Co is suing various companies or groups for using their name and or logo. Which begs me to ask what is the real Lambretta doing these days (other than employing lawyers)? I've seen Lambretta clothing around but I'm not even sure if that is legit.
It would be good to see them get into motorcycles something similar but different. I don't think they should bring out a modern scooter. It would be like a faded 70's rock star teaming up with Justin Bieber so they could tap into the current tweenie market.

Modern classic

with the option of gears or using a version of this engine...

http://www.lambretta.co.uk/targatwin.html

If enough were made they could almost be worth the money...almost, but at 8000 Euro just for the engine....

Does look nice though.

So....

Is it a Lambretta, or someone with a "standard" bike just using their brand? Looking at the Moto GP webpage, it sounds like Lambretta proper.....

That article also says

That article also says

"This move comes in the year when the first all new range of Lambretta Scooters since 1970 are set to go into production."

If you then Google search articles of Lambrettas scooter line up for 2010...

http://www.bikepoint.com.au/news/2010/scooters/lambretta/lambretta-returns-19020

http://www.roadrider.com.au/AnnouncementRetrieve.aspx?ID=32588

"Designed and built in Italy, the new range will carry much of the original Lambretta DNA. Styling, heritage, attitude and personality"

What BS!

Look at the pics of these things! That ain't a Lambretta.

What a shame

its a badged one of these by the looks of it

http://www.californiabosshoss.com/sloncin_scooters.php

I get the feeling there are two "new lamy scooter release for 2010" stories running together, one from the eyetie factory and one from the Chinese landfill supply factories... could be wishful thinking on my part though. LoL

opinions are like arseholes!

everyone's got one (and probably one standing nearby) and of course i am right and you are all wrong! or at least thats how you should be about your opinions, able to stand behind them 100 percent.
I reckon that the guys that own that race team love lambrettas, which is an easy thing to do!
Of course its not a lambretta, its probably a piaggio engine, since they seem to own everything (much like VW) who knows, but it will be some store bought engine and frame i imagine with lambretta livery on the bodywork.
As for the other comments, any lambretta released now, is NOT a true lambretta in my opinion....is it the original factory/family/tooling/spirit involved in the production - NO - who knows who has the rights to the name, let them waste their money in court!
What i do know is there was a bunch of work done around a stage 5 lambretta innovations concept with Frank's involvement. It was an amazing effort and they shoe horned a piaagio leader engine into it...while its a great engine, in someones opinion - it sounds like a mooing cow, and is therefore rubbish :P
The guys are right, there are other options, the targa twin engine. based on an original factory concept, but because it was done by a lambretta nerd, its not what it could have been (its a faithful reproduction with some minor tweaks)
given that 30 years has transpired and we have learnt a hell of a lot about engine design, you would think that more technology would have been employed in the engine...modern porting technology present in trail bikes, proper ignitions, clutches, gearboxes, etc etc etc.
Instead the targa twin is a somewhat tiny effort rather than what it should have been....an engine to carry the lambretta name with pride for another 30 years!
the other engine of interest is the PM tuning twin, which is basically two gilera runner (PM172 Kits) strapped together in parallel formation....this thing is lightning fast....but has no gears, and sounds like a very angry cow!
that is very cool, but.....
what stands behind all this and more, including the race bikes, is a love for lambrettas. These inspired men have realised their opinion/dream of the best way to achieve lambretta domination...rather than just moaning about who has the best idea. Brilliant
Its what we should be all doing, less moaning and more doing
i love the bikes, the targa twin, the pm twin, the stuff that lambretta innovations have done - i would own an angry cow motivated new lambretta based on a 70s design tomorrow if i had the dough - its like the scootering equivalent of the new beetle or mini or dodge challenger or fiat bambina or any other old design inspired new offering....
ok - my opinion is best, i am not listening to detractors, haha

dear kevin,
hurry up and finsh your land speed record lambretta, so that i can have something else to crow about/drink to/and drag your sorry arse to bonneville or tramways road!

hmmm, i love the smell of methanol and castor oil in the morning.....thankfully charlie dont surf

Lambretta

If someone with a passion for Lambretta scooters and a few million to spare goes to the trouble of producing a fast cool lightweight sports scooter with around 300cc that looks like a classic then i will definitely window shop in his store!!!

Tall order

Old shape, new shape, two or four stroke, geared or cee-vee-teed?

Those with a passion for a Lambretta got that from the past scoots, survival of the brand once started will be from reaching those looking for modern scoots.
It/they will have to be all things to all people.

Imagine a company building a modular scoot sort of pick a part
pick this size engine to bolt onto that type of box in several options for frames.
Upgrades would be easy and fun one engine transferable across what ever scoot type you in the mood for that month.

point

My point is that while you well may be describing a desirable modern scooter, it would have no particular claim to the L name. Kind of like the contemporary Triumphs.

Posted by Ritchie on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 05:19
You have spent a few hours thinking about this..

the only thing missing is a roof and windscreen wipers

With all that electronic gear I hope it would come with a complementary computer program that you could use at home to sort things out or tweak.
Basic things as standard but with the option of more advanced options for fuel and ignition should the after-market side of things take off.
Nothing worse than a high tech piece of kit with only one person with the quintillion NZ paso service program and they are in a different end of the country.

Very expensive bang for buck ratio, but vespa seem to pull it off.

do it once and do it right

no need for tweaking and multi options of everything, this is not the disneyland of scooters, it is my modern scooter, love it or loathe it... haha

Yeah ok BUT...

You know at some point a spanner is going to be taken to the thing for a reason other servicing, its just human nature, not that your list leaves a lot to add in accessories.
But they will get old and they will get raced...

disneyland

Your word, not mine

Posted by Ritchie on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 10:45
needs more storage

That's one of  the main benefits of scootering. Underseat storage is a must as far as I'm concerned. I love being able to put a tent under the seat, clothes and bits and pieces in the top box, mattress on the front rack, pillian behind me, and we're away...freedom to go where-ever for days...

Hobie's picture
Posted by Hobie on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 05:51
thats what pannier bags and towels are for

underseat storage indeed, why dont you go ride a porto-loo? oh wait, whats in your picture there, hahaha - kidding!
where will the gas tank go, no old scoot had underseat nonsense, or a top box,,,,,you can load your scooter like your meant too...tent between your knees, bags on the front, bags on the panniers, bags behind your bum
WORD, over and out.x

Mmmm

I ride a 4-stroke auto and a 2-stroke manual and I would pick number 4 on your list any day of the week:

4. Would you buy a classically inspired Modern Lambretta with gears and 30hp available at 4000rpm in 2 stroke aroma form? F&^k yes!!

Yes, there is nothing like the smell of Motul filling the nostrils....

Best work on my next Million (the first few were abject failures) to get this wee factory off the ground, reckon there would be takers for Africa....
