Etc/GMT+12

No pies on this run! Well it's the famous Kaiaua stop for good ol' Fush 'n Chups :) - enjoy the Hauraki Gulf as you ride by.
For those who don't know, Jolly Farmer, Papakura is located at 200 Great South Rd., Papakura.

Only suitable for open road riders.

togo ornot togo

Is this run likely to go ahead? Anyone intending to go on it?

BTW, it's actually 200 Great South Rd, Drury, a bit south of Papakura.

What general route is proposed?

Of course!

Bar detrimental weather that could cause havoc to riders, yes, of course this ride will go ahead and of course EVERYONE is intending on going on it :). I sure am but I may not be able to get cover - however, Ron sure is and so will be a lot of others. It's a great run and the route is up to the RIdes Captain on the day.

of course?

Well, I was pretty surprised (and disappointed) when the small mob assembled at Ye Jolly Farmer for the Glenbrook ride decided to turn tail for home, despite a good (and accurate, as it turned out) weather forecast. The same thing may happen this Saturday too, I guess. Could we have a firm confirmation or cancellation posting by 9am Saturday, please?

Yes, of course

When the Rides Committee posts a ride it is not done with any intention that the ride will not take place - sorry that you were disappointed in the Glenbrook ride not happening and there must have been reasons amongst those that did turn up as to why the ride didn't go ahead.

To be able to get more riders on a ride the best way is to encourage pople to come and not discourage them by being negative on the website.

The club and RIdes Captain are always mindful of the safety of the riders and their capabilities and whether wet roads will be too hazardous etc and this may have been the case for the Glenbrook ride.

The Club has also been consistent in informing people on the website prior to the ride if there is a question mark about the weather.

This coming Saturday is another iffey looking day with blustery conditions possible and showers definitely on the horizon. However, the Rides Captain will make the call on the day and if possible will inform on website but if the ride still looks like a possibility then the meeting place and time still stands and a later decision may have to be taken. That's the nature of unpredictable weather conditions.

Let's be clear that the Club and Rides Captain of the day always wants the ride to go ahead but safety concerns for riders and their scoots are paramount.

I like it when he's firm

I think that when the weather is iffy, the decision to continue or cancel (posted, say, an hour and a half beforehand) should be pretty firm, and that it should take a major decline to reverse the posted decision. This is particularly significant when the assembly point is some way off, eg Ye Jolly Farmer, or Westgate.

Yes, when a cancellation is posted...

...it is firm.

We have had occasions when we have met for the ride and weather had turned so the ride was either curtailed to a coffee shop or else ride was cancelled due to conditions of road but that late call could only be made at that stage.

As you know, we do our best and place cancellations on website when we can with sufficient notice.
