Expressions of Interest for Vespa GT200
*Gasp*, I hear! Yes, sadly my beautiful beige GT is for sale. We have made the decision that we need a "family station wagon" so I will have to sell the GT having bought a terribly boring Ford Mondeo....(although I do like the idea of drinking coffee and listening to ZM or George in warmth on the way to work!!)...
Basically, it is a 2005 GT200, bog standard, with 25k on the clock. I bought it with 10k on the clock. It was previously fully maintained by Motorad in Wellington and has since been maintained by Goetz, serviced every 4,000km. It will come with a new 6 month rego and the WOF expires in May 2011.
Tyres still have plenty of life in them, but if the price hits $5,500, I will fit two new Boppers for the new owner.
It also comes with a massive 43L top box, made in China and recently fitted with bullet-proof hinges after the old ones failed. The top box looks UGLY AS HELL, but is big enough to hold a dead body if said body has been chopped into really small pieces.
Great commuting scooter and I have used it daily for over a year on motorways, always able to easily keep up with traffic. This is true on the new Mangere Motorway where the traffic no longer slows down!!
I will remain a scooter boy and the GS will now be able to see more daylight!
So, an All-Points-Bulletin to those out there in scooter-land that if you want a well maintained GT in near-new condition, please contact me via the website. I expect to list Bianca on TardMe on the weekend....
Indicative pricing at this point is somewhere between $5,000 and $5,500. As I mentioned, if I get $5,500, I will fit two new tyres...

Good news is remaining a scooterboy
Ah well, you sure have had a good run from your GT, Eddie - glad you still have the GS :)

Sold!!! (or so I thought)
Be aware, those in Magneto internet land. I *may* be embroiled in an internet scam. Well worth warning others in case this happens to you.....
The story thus far...
I got a text that someone abroad was interested in my scooter and I was asked to email "Jenny Bleeker" to arrange. Jenny was very keen and asked whether I had a PayPal account. It turns out that I do, having bought stuff from eBay in the past. For your info, Jenny is in Malasia.
This happened very quickly yesterday and this morning I got an email from PayPal to tell me that the whole amount has been credited into my account including the shipping, which I have to pay to the shipper in Malasia, via a Credit Union payment. Once the shipping payment has been confirmed, I will get all the dollars. They even paid me more than I was asking!
It was so good and so easy that I smelled a rat, so I decided to investigate. Two things struck me as wrong. Firstly, the english in the emails is not up to Jenny Bleeker's American standard. Second, the email came from "Customerservice@paypal.com" but the actual email address shown in my Yahoo Promail was from consultant.com.
A google search showed that this is a famous scam. I will be required to pay the shipping (a whopping amount) and then be asked to pay insurance, then some other fee, until I stop and wind up a lot poorer....
So beware you lovely scooter sellers. I am still waiting as I have sent an email to PayPal (the real one) to verify the transaction code but I am willing to bet you a Steak and Cheese Pie that it will be dodgy.....
Only silly thing I did was to remove the listing from TradeMe, which means I will have to pay another $19 to relist. Happy to forego that, rather than sums I was likely to pay, had I been SUCKED IN!!!
Where?
Were your suspicions not aroused by the non-existence of Malasia?
I've been there Richie
Not sure what was in that bong, but it was GOOD.
Really?
Google it some time, see what you get
Oh Ritchie....
...you need to get the joke.....Google "Bong" and see what you get....Not everything is literal....
But once again, thanks for acting as the website's spell checker. What would we do without you?
bong
Eddie, I knew what a bong was before you were born. What I'm trying to point out is that if someone can't spell the name of the country they say they are from, it's often a bit of a give away that there's something a little fishy.....................
Their spelling was fine
It was mine that was out. That was not the rat, it was the other things that alerted me. I did not copy their email letter for letter, I was simply trying to convey a message, which clearly contained a typo. My sincerest apologies for that. I will try much harder in the future. :)
I received a similar text about my GT
I received a similar text about my GT (also for sale on TradeMe by the way...) but it looked dodgy from the start so I just ignored it.
Anyone out there want to buy my GT? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=315166099
Smelling a rat
Good on you for seeing through this scam, Eddie, and thanks for letting us know and become aware of such rotten scammers.

Good sidestep
I'm sure your not the first or last to be targeted but well done on reading your gut instinct, it is inherently strong in seasoned scooter riders.
Tardme copped some criticism for being very slow to close a few bogus member accounts a few years ago, some people lost a bit of gear to "overseas pay-pal scams", some were setup just to collect email addresses to either sell on or use in the classic viagra sale or a long lost relative has died and if you send us your account details we can forward on the mill or so inheritance.
A but of a bugga really I didn't get the pills or the inheritance! HaHa... er.... its not funny....

I've had several such texts.
I've had several such texts. As soon as you are asked to reply by email and not by text message, then there is a rat to be smelled. Just ignore the message.
da xistnce of richie hz bin cnfrmd
He s not bleevd 2 be in malasia
Heheheheeee.
I have relisted the GT and got exactly the same text message from Jenny Bleeker. Any smart ideas on how I can scam the scammers, or at the very least, have some fun with them?
ask them for a deposit to
ask them for a deposit to hold the bike
Yeah, good idea
What I suspect they will propose (again) is to use PayPal and will have a false PayPal email thing set up already. What I might suggest is that the deposit is held via a bank-to-bank secure transfer (without disclosing the bank account details) as most banks will do this for foreign money orders....
I have created a fake Gmail account and await their response.

It's amazing what some of the people on the 419eater site can get the scammers to do. There is sure to be some ideas on there.
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning
Nice work...
Will see what comes back and take it from there.....
great fun!
see, for example, the hilarious correspondence at http://www.419baiter.com/games/mariejeannekeita.html
The game is on!
You will need to read from the bottom. Still no response to my last correspondence, waiting to hear back and if not, might try another tack.....
Hi Jenny, I have no reason to doubt your integrity. As I have mentioned, it is an unfortunate circumstance that has led to me being unable to use PayPal. I wish that this was not the case, as I would dearly like to carry out this trade with you. I will see what I can do with regard to PayPal, though but cannot make any promises. As you are obviously an American or British woman (from your name), you must have a credit card that can be used to secure a deposit on the scooter. It will not be much, maybe 10% of the value.
Do you mind sending me a photo of yourself, so that I can see what you look like? I am a firm believer in trusting people and would like to know what you look like, to be able to picture the trade properly.
I would dearly like to do this trade, as I have another problem at the moment, where I need to send some money abroad and cannot do this myself without some foreign assistance due to legal reasons. I can only send this money to a foreign bank account of a business and I don't have one. You mentioned that you run a business, so you may be the perfect, trustworthy person to be able to help me out. I would be willing to pay a commission on the money, which is a substantial sum. For that, I do need the company to have a bank account. Do you think that we might be able to combine the purchase of the scooter with this other transaction?
Regards, Frank.

i can only conclude this transaction only via paypal,i have been burnt via cheque and bank transfer before, that is why i selected paypal(www.paypal.com/nz) as a mode of payment because paypal is the best online payment,so both of us could be on the safer side,i am a woman of integrity.i am honest and don`t cheat people out of their money,i own my company that have a 25 number of people working for me,awaiting your decision because i really need to pursue this buy sincerely.

Hi Jenny, thanks for that. I used to have a PayPal account, but that was closed down as someone hacked it about 6 months ago and they thought that I had supplied the password. So I cannot use PayPal any longer.
As you probably know, PayPal is not the safest way to trade anyway, and as you want the scooter, I suggest that we do a bank-to-bank transfer. Surely there is a bank near where you are. I have been to Malaysia many times and know that there are banks pretty much everywhere. This will be much safer for you and that way, you are guaranteed to get your bike. If you send me your bank details, I can set that up from this side. I will need a $500 deposit to secure the bike, as there is someone coming to look tomorrow, so if you send me your credit card number, name on the card and expiry date, I can process that this end and secure the bike for you.
I look forward to your response. I will not be contactable for about 10 hours, so will chat to you when I am back at my computer.
Thanks and I hope that we can do this!
Frank.

Thanks a lot. I have read everything about the bike on the website and everything is okay by me.
I have actually tried to get this bike here earlier from here but most of the ones I got either have one huge mechanical fault or the other and some have even had accidents in the past while some are extremely exorbitant.
As to the price, Price is Ok. So if you deem the offer good enough, I will be very glad to make the payment asap
but i can only conclude this transaction only via paypal(www.paypal.com/nz) as I am currently offshore and I won't
definitely be able to make it to my bank to make bank wires across to you.
As to shipping, you need not worry yourself about how the bike will get to me here in the Malaysia as I will contact a shipping company here who will handle that.
Do get back to me asap with your PayPal Email address and Full name so that I can remit the payment asap.

Hi Jenny, all the details you need for the scooter are on the TradeMe advert. You must have seen it as that is what you referred to in your text message. I am sorry that I cannot supply you with further details.
The price of the scooter is $5500. There is a lot of interest at the moment, so I suggest that if you are interested, you move quickly and pay a deposit to secure the transaction. As for payment, I am able to process credit cards and will, naturally, be able to accept payment into my bank. I may be able to set up a Pay Now account (the TradeMe version of Pay Pal) if you need that. For that, you have to be a registered TradeMe member.
As for your shipping agent, that is naturally your choice. Happy to prepare the scooter for shipping for you.
Cheers, Frank.

Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply, What is your asking price and i want you to get back to me with more pictures because i am not available at the moment, i am in Malaysia and i will be using the bike here in Malaysia I will be handling the pick up of this merchandise through a legitimate shipping agent that has their headquarter situated in Malaysia. Please note that i will not be needing the bike registration because it will be invalid over here so please remove the registration. The bike will be picked up after you receive the full payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment because i need this bike urgently. Hope to read from you asap.
