Wet Winter

It has been wet for the last 5 w/ends, and I feel cabin fever is setting in once again.
The committee has organised at least 2 rides a month, taking us up to Dec, but knowing from past experience, half of these rides will be postponed due to adverse weather.
It's a good time to dream about what you would like in the way of rides/challenges for the rest of this year. Well here's mine..
On condition that the roads are dry and the weather a little more friendly than what's been dished out to us lately.

Take a Friday "off", say around November, back roads to Taupo. Maybe join up with other scoots here before riding south to Taumaranui.
Next day, sample a little of route 43, ( Forgotten H/W ) to Ohura turn off approx 35kms. Ride north via back roads to Te Kuiti, ( all sealed roads ). Night in Kawhia before heading home, or south east.

Last week under adverse weather conditions, I rode with a group south, with a night stop over in Taumaranui. Next day through R43 to Stratford, Whanganui, then north, dropping in on the Cold Kiwi, west of Waiouru and back to Taum.
I noticed that the cost of motel accommodation along this route has increased disproportionately. eg. Whangamomona hotel now charges $200 per room/night. That's nearly a 150% increase over 3 years.
To keep costs down I would rather use camping grounds, as motels often require up front payment. Meaning you take the risk if the weather turns foul.
It is a ride that covers what the King Country is about.?

Who's interested.?

Our last such adventure was a great success, ask Ron our president...
